“Ah,” Junai says, when he realizes what day it is. He looks at Keiichi and Haruhiko, their backs turned to him as they make dinner. “Mama, Papa, uhm.” He says, stopping himself, suddenly unsure.
Keiichi turns to look at him. “Hm?” He inquires, “What is it?”
“Uhm… Pudding…” Junai trails off, cutting himself off when he realizes what he’s about to ask, what he never usually asks. “Where’s-” He clears his throat “-where is he?”
Keiichi scrutinizes him for awhile, and Junai squirms a little in his seat. “Nevermind,” he says, immediately returning to colouring the drawing he made of him and his parents.
Keiichi looks at Haruhiko, a silent conversation going between them, and when Haruhiko nods, Keiichi chuckles low and quiet. “Why do you want to know?”
Junai pauses in his colouring, and ponders. And- Pudding’s really annoying and likes chewing on his hair too much, so why does he want to know? His hair hasn’t been smelling like spit and chocolate milk and his clothes are neatly folded in his closet and why—
“He’s annoying,” Junai says, like he’s out of breath.
Keiichi takes a seat in front of him and leans on the table, letting his hand cradle his chin. (Haruhiko does not dare mention that he has something on his face.) “There you have it.” He pats Junai on the head, and looks at the drawing he has. “Ah, that’s really pretty, maybe we could frame it and put it by the cactus-”
But Junai doesn’t hear the rest with the blood rushing in his ears and his heart pounding and he’s just really confused right now. “If-if,” he starts, unsure once more, “if I don’t ask about him, he’ll annoy me even more.”
“Then stop humouring him.”
Junai inhales, and somehow the thought doesn’t sit right with him. He thinks, and thinks with all he’s got. It’s a familiar feeling, this thing that’s constricting his chest. It’s when his Mama and Papa are both too busy for work, it’s when he doesn’t get to see any of his uncles for a long time. And— and— “I miss him.” He says, quietly, and maybe a little shocked.
Keiichi smiles, and Haruhiko knows this is what he’s been trying to coax Junai to admit. “Alright then. He’s sick, and I told Yukina-kun that I’ll have his head if you get sick because of Pudding.”
Junai sighs, “They say idiots never catch colds.” Suddenly, the air feels lighter, and maybe he’ll colour the cake pink and yellow in his drawing because he can.
“Language,” Haruhikos says.

Later, when Haruhiko asks Keiichi why, of all things, did he let Junai admit that, Keiichi says, “We don’t need two emotionally stunted people in this household.”
